How about giving homeless people Watchtower and Awake mags instead of money. Wow, another neat way for pioneers to keep their mag placements up.
I knew some sicko Witnesses who put literature in the bags of kids trick or treating at Halloween. Talk about asking for your house to be egged.

Out in the midwest we had rural territory. Farm houses 1 to 2 miles apart. The trick was to get a big enough car group so you only went to about 4 or 5 doors in two hours. If you found a not at home, you would be certain to check all doors and the barn. (Look out for the dog.) Then when it was time for lunch, you'd drive to the nearest city with a decent place to eat.
I'd have to say that as a pioneer trying to waste as much time as possible, I was an artist.

I'll never forget a conversation I overheard between some Bethel workers in the pressroom and the assistant pressroom overseer. He was telling us about his vacation back home and the special talk he was asked to give on Sunday. He said after discussing any problems in the congregation with the elders he decided that the only criticism he could come up with to harangue them about in his talk was that some of the "brothers" wore colored dress shirts to meetings and out in service instead of white shirts. Does this tell you anything about the JW attitude towards dress?

What led me to the athiestic viewpoint was the realization that my belief or disbelief in a higher power was and is completely irrelevant. Initially, after reading Crisis of Conscience I began to read mainstream Christian writings and apologetics. I even got baptized in the Baptist Church. I did not have a born again experience and I certainly didn't find answers to my questions about lifes meaning in the traditional Christian dogma. The Bible has some nice life stories and it has some far fetched legend. What to believe and what to reject as myth is just too much personal responsibility for me. If I can't rely on the Bible for lifes answers, then why should it have any more credibility than the Book of Mormon, the Talmud or any other religious tome?
Furthermore, what kind of God would require absolute worship based on uncertain evidence of it's existence or it's purposes? There's a lot of talk in Christianity about God blessing those who have faith in God. Well, in reality, there are many who seem to have blessed lives who are Moslems, Jews, Shintoists, Taoists, etc. And there are many who faithfully believe in a Christian God who's lives really suck. Finally, scientific explanations for our existance, while incomplete, are more logical than the stories contained in religious writings.
What if I'm wrong? Then "I'd rather die with the sinners than live with the saints!"

As a young man while pioneering I was out in service with three married sisters and a curmudgeonly elderly man who had been a witness for many years. Out of nowhere this old guy decided to tell a joke. I can't remember the specific joke but do remember that it had something to do with large penises and foreskins. The joke was actually sidesplittingly funny, but no one in the car laughed or said a word.
Soon after that one of the married sisters was disfellowshipped for adultery. Perhaps the joke pushed her in that direction. Probably not.
i visited my 77 year old mother the other day and noticed she had a new jw book on her kitchen counter titled "isaiah's prophecy".
having just started visting this forum i thought i might be able to pick out some gems from these books to pass along.
well, two things have resulted from picking up this book: 1. my mother has told my sisters that i am thinking about coming back into the borg and 2. i have realized after reading a few pages that this book it is nothing more than recycled bilge from the past 50-60 years.

oh, thankfully I missed Vol. I. I have Vol. II and somehow I don't think it matters which is which.
